About Dr. Heiner
Dr. Bryce Heiner is originally from Silver City, New Mexico. He was inspired to pursue oral surgery because he likes the challenge and the thrill of surgical procedures. He also liked the fact that he could make an immediate impact on his patients’ lives. As an undergrad, he considered other dental careers, but preferred the more intense aspect and high stakes of oral surgery.
Dr. Heiner was happy to return to his roots and start his private practice here in New Mexico. As a proud member of this community, Dr. Heiner treats all of his patients just like he would treat his family. In addition to his oral surgery practice, Dr. Heiner also helps his community through his church activities and volunteering. He feels blessed to be working and helping out in the community that he grew up in.
Education
Dr. Heiner began his undergraduate career at Western New Mexico University before transferring to University Utah to finish it up and earn his bachelor’s degree. After graduating in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts in medical biology, he attended dental school at the University of Louisville. He graduated cum laude in 2004 in the top five percent of his class with his Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD) degree. After finishing dental school, Dr. Heiner decided to continue his education by attending a special program at LSU Medicine in New Orleans. The program involved 1 year of oral and maxillofacial surgery, two years of medical school, then one year of general surgery. He completed this program and earned his medical degree in 2007.
Residency
After earning both his medical and dental degree, Dr. Heiner completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery training at LSU Charity Hospital. During this residency, he expanded his knowledge of the oral and maxillofacial specialty and trained alongside licensed anesthesiologists to learn the safe administration of all forms of anesthesia. He gained hands-on experience in a hospital setting and trained in the treatment of a wide range of conditions, including dental implant placement, oral pathology treatment, treatment of facial trauma injuries, and more. He finished his residency in 2010 before returning to New Mexico to practice the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery.
Certifications
Dr. Heiner is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, which means he upholds the highest standards according to the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Becoming board certified is an extensive process involving a written exam and four separate oral exams. Each one of these exams is designed to test an oral surgeon’s explicit knowledge of every aspect of the OMS specialty. After receiving their board certification, oral surgeons must continue to expand their knowledge and continue their education to demonstrate their exemplary status. They must also recertify to prove they are exceeding the original standards. As a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Heiner can ensure you receive the best possible care.
